“Tattoos, motorcycles, cigarettes… These are things that I openly indulge in. Most would associate such guilty pleasures with society’s depiction of a modern day “rebel” however, rebellion goes deeper. I’ve been sober for quite some time now. I gave up drugs and alcohol with the understanding that my lifestyle was in no way benefiting from abusing them. I used to think there was something badass, cool and rock star-like about getting f***** up. Now I think it’s cool to say “no”. I made a change in my life by simply challenging and going against something I used to abide by. Being a rebel in my opinion, is defying social norms by standing up for things that we ourselves truly believe in. Some of the greatest activists, leaders and artists were without a doubt rebels. Rebellion is simply the act of seeking change.

Life can be unjust due to certain impositions that we sometimes have no control over, but we all have an opinion and a voice. These are to be used for the greater good. Forms have rebellion shape the future, they defy society’s status quo to create something new. The most impactful rebellions have been led by visionaries whom were supported and followed by people sharing similar ideals and the same hope. Hunger for something new. Being a rebel can mean going against what others may already believe in, and that is never easy by any means. It takes strength and courage to create and ameliorate. There’s a saying that goes “don’t fix what isn’t broken’. But clearly sometimes a few people see cracks and fissures in something that others can’t. I’d like to think that I have the qualities of a rebel, because I choose to live my life the way I want to. There’s a rebel in each and everyone of us, we just need to learn how to put it to good use.”
