Dear Madeira, this is a letter to you: I came here several times, made friends, people are good. Your energy is always different for those who visit you. In the streets of your body, tropical plants rise to the sky, of an infinite green, endless roads flanked by a thousand different flowers. You are an explosion of color in our senses, my body wants to dance. I am a child of the sea, I always said, and you lie on the mist of the immense waters of the Atlantic. Dear Madeira, you are a feminine curve dancing with the shape of a rock. Your hair light up like thousands and thousands of lights swallowed up in your back. Your personality and temperament are unmatched: One day you cry on your shoulders but your feet are made of sunbeams. You are a tropical storm but you quickly change your mind, serene and mild as your dawns. We are alike, maybe it’s the reason I love you so much.
“Imagine yourself walking through a green forest with many trees, the branches full of birds that lull us with their chirping. A melody mixed with the sound of waterfalls in the distance while the sun’s rays penetrate the green and infinite foliage.”

“I dare to say: one of the best breakfast views in the world.”
And there it is, The Savoy Palace, facing the immensity of the ocean. With a sinuous body and its immense hanging gardens and seductive infinite curves stretching out over the sea. Its grandeur leaves no one indifferent, whether for its size and appearance or for its incredible service and the extraordinary view over Funchal. With a privileged location it can be the starting point for all the exploration of this magnificent island. I arrived at the hotel in a very beautiful summer evening, the sun’s rays were already descending through the infinite Atlantic Ocean. The reception was majestic, large and imposing, a bit classic, but in my opinion it does not represent the extraordinary building.
After a nice and “complete” checkin I was taken to my room. As soon as I opened the door of my suite I noticed the incredible view over Funchal and the Ocean. A room fully connected with with nature, being part of it and inviting me to relax. A perfect decoration by Nini Andrade Silva, where marbles and sober lines draw the comfort of this unique space. This suite is an invitation, an ode to well-being. A moment. You can literally sit down and smell the comfort. And the warm colors of the sunset enters through the room claiming the golden palette in the decoration details, becoming one. In a single moment. In a unique and unrivaled light. In a view that we want to have forever. The bed was an invitation for a peaceful night but first I want to discover what the hotel has to offer, in all its plenitude. I want to discover every corner, restaurants, SPA, infinity pools and of course the staff that makes this place possible.
It’s around 8 in the morning, I open the curtains and an immensity of light penetrates the windows of my bedroom. It looks like a painting, a poetic moment where clouds swim in the mountains to the sound of the Atlantic waves. I want to stand and admire all that splendor but the most important part is about to come. Breakfast is with no doubt the most important moment for me. Where we reinforce our energies for the rest of the day, where we make conversations, where we organize our thoughts. If you stay in a suite, you have Exclusive access to the Jacaranda Lounge & Club, including à la carte breakfast and access to the infinity pool & jet pool solarium, with daily offer of gourmet delicacies and healthy shots. I went up to the 16th floor where Jacaranda restaurant is located and the elevator doors opened to an immense blue where ocean and sky danced together in a competition. A friendly staff welcomed me for breakfast and there I spent more than an hour enjoying the fresh and exotic fruits or the freshly ground coffee. The eggs, the pancakes, the bowls… I don’t know where to start… maybe the freshly baked cake of the day? I dare to say: one of the best breakfast views in the world.
Savoy Palace consists of 2 Presidential Suites, 14 Pool Suites, 34 Suites, 246 Ocean, Superior & Concept Rooms and 56 Avenue and Garden Rooms. Options for eating are not lacking either. The Savoy Palace delights us with 5 restaurants, including Galaxia Sky food, Jacaranda, O Terreiro and Alameda. All of them for different times, or simply for whenever we feel like it. The first experience was at Nikkei at Jacaranda: tasteful and eye-pleasing transformations of Japanese dishes with flavors and techniques from around the world! I was lucky enough to be able to attend the launch of this project by the hands of chef Miguel Bertolo. From July to October 31st you can indulge yourself in this experience: à la carte, or degustation menus, and wine pairings with specific wines for Asian cuisine, or original cocktail pairings with a dash of the Orient. If this kind of food is not your favorite, you always have the option of having lunch or dinner at Alameda. One of my favorites. Located next to the main pool, in an exotic and welcoming environment, this restaurant serves simple and delicious food: you can go for Octopus with smoked paprika, spinach, sautéed sweet potato with garlic and olive oil (my number one) or the famous “bolo do caco” with grilled limpets, or even pizzas baked in a stone oven. Sorry if you are salivating right now, but this is the power of gastronomic memories. Terreiro is located outside the hotel complex but with direct access, just a few meters from the main pool. Inspired by local traditions, the restaurant offers varied and flavourful gastronomic experiences with a touch of creativity.
For a fully sensory experience the choice will obviously have to be Galaxia Sky food. Located on the top floor of the hotel with mind-bogglingly incredible views of the mountains and ocean, this is a tasting and feasting space for our senses. The space’s decoration lives up to its name: it feels like we’re under a starry sky, dark blue tones open doors to the sea outside, with a perfect light design in a very luxurious environment. The highlight of the dinner was undoubtedly the “Wagyu beef skewer, bread and garlic crumble”, and the dessert “Orange “Poncha” flavors and peanuts“.

The day could never end without discovering the exclusive wellness space at the Savoy Palace. Imagine yourself walking through a green forest with many trees, the branches full of birds that lull us with their chirping. A melody mixed with the sound of waterfalls in the distance while the sun’s rays penetrate the green and infinite foliage. A path of relaxation, comfort, sober colors and a luxurious smell. Body and mind indulge in well-being in this infinite and rejuvenating forest called Laurea Spa. A place inspired by this magic island garden where you can find so many ways to feel the soothing effects of the treatments. The place is just indescribable and relaxing. A unique decoration where you feel like crossing the roots of a giant tree in search of equilibrium. A hug from the Atlantico to the Laurissilva forest, the unique type of forest, native to Madeira.
Mind and body finally connected, a complete sense experience. A property made of people and good food, comfort and the most beautiful views you can ask for in a hotel.
