Paris, January 2022. I arrive in Paris on a very sunny morning, and when the sun shines in Paris, the city becomes even more magical and the monumentality of the buildings is reflected in every step I take. In a quiet street in the center of Paris I see a sky-colored door. A very soft and calming but very inviting blue. The name: NUAGE. Cloud in French. Maybe that was the reason the door was so soft blue.

Certainly an indication of well being and comfort but that would be something to discover soon. Nuage is a 4-star hotel located at 30 Rue Jean Mermoz. The family-owned hotel invites us to have a slow-living experience. Stop for a moment to rest in a city as hectic as Paris. This location could not be more privileged in the heart of the 8th arrondissement, so to speak, close to the most luxurious shops, museums and the best restaurants in town. As soon as I walk through the blue sky door I feel like this is a boutique hotel, no rush, no rush at all. A sober decoration of a palette of soft and neutral colors with some design notes here and there, books, sculptures and plants. I was offered a freshly ground coffee before going up to my room. I talked to the receptionist for a few moments and I ended up realizing that she was Portuguese, just like me. The world can be quite small, especially in Paris with a huge Portuguese community. She briefly spoke to me about the hotel and gave me the room number. The silence in the hotel was imperative, in a good way.

The smell of fresh coffee echoed in the air like a melody and I was certainly ready to go to my room. NUAGE is home to 27 rooms and suites and each one has its own specific decorative details. But always with the intention of creating a calming, cozy space, neutral tones where white and beige prevail in the decoration. Light colored woods, books on the shelves, minimalist lamps and fresh flowers on the table. I stayed in ‘The Suite’. A small oasis in the center of the city. Small for a master suite but big on comfort and silence. This suite with a view of the courtyard is covered with a woven carpet reminiscent of Renaissance frescoes. The room opens onto a comfortable living room, a sofa bed and deck chairs to see the sunny side of life or meditate and, through a door, reveals a bedroom exuding luxurious comfort. The bathroom is equipped with a shower and a bathtub for a moment of deep relaxation. 33 sqm of pure pleasure. This small boutique hotel hides some secrets. We can start with breakfast, which is located in the basement and is open all day, any time and any day of the week.

A huge bonus for a stay at Nuage. Breakfast is delicious, unpretentious, and healthy. From fruit salads to a wide selection of nuts, a water bar where you can find the most varied refreshing flavors (mint, cucumber, kiwi, ginger, cinnamon…) to the famous French local pastry that leaves no one indifferent. Too bad I didn’t try the house specialty, as it could be, the “cloud” eggs. Certainly delicious, but next time. Another of this boutique hotel’s well-kept little secrets is the movie theater. Yes, a movie theater inside the hotel. A private and intimate room where hotel guests can choose their favorite movie and enjoy a moment to relax. The Nuage hotel is a good cloud that hovers over Paris and has brought a breath of fresh and light air to a city that never stops. Unpretentious, calm, each day with a proper rhythm, without rushing around. Imagine a cloud that crosses the sky slowly pushed by a light breeze, very slowly that relaxes and snuggles us, this is Nuage.
