Considered one of the most alluring beach destinations with its crystal-clear turquoise waters, Casas na Areia’s minimalist aesthetic goes perfectly with its surroundings to create a serene ambiance. Located just one hour south of Lisbon in Comporta, Portugal, a region known for its magnificent white sandy beaches, it is the perfect location that lets you take in the wonders of nature. Consisting of four seaside thatched-roof bungalows, these “huts” are feats of architecture that are not only beautiful, but innovative with their quirky features. What makes this place special is that instead of hardwood flooring, the white sand of the surrounding beaches paves the floor. Nothing beats walking barefoot on the sand as the waves crashing upon the shore echoes around you and the sea breeze caresses your face. Here, nature is literally brought indoors. Some may consider the idea a primitive one, but with heating beneath the sand your comfort is not compromised as you waltz barefoot around your private bungalow. An original idea that invites the landscape to become an integral part of a complete architectonic vision. The sand, having being heavily incorporated into the interior, has made it the unifying element between internal and external worlds, making one believe that the interior is simply an extension of the natural environment that the location proffers. The unique offering of this location is comforting and relaxing, sure, but it is the poetic ambiance that will really enchant you on your journey here. Minimalism and the clever camouflaging of modern technology of the property will leave you thinking that there is something more beyond the simplicity of things. Not simply aesthetically appealing, each aspect of the Casas na Areia has been architected to catalyse relaxation, particularly important when you are on vacation.
Each of the bungalows offers double bedrooms with ensuite white Corian open-plan bathrooms that comes fully equipped. The white-walled bedrooms are luxurious, with concrete floors and gleaming interiors that mirror the brilliant white of the Comporta sand. The bungalow also boasts an open plan dining and living area with minimal decor that features African art and furniture as well as a private plunge pool that is perfect during those hot summer days as you take in the breathtaking sights around you. A place that pays homage to its landscape, these bungalows, the brainchild of architect Manuel Aires Mateus, possess superb design and have been chosen to represent Portugal at the Venice Biennale of Architecture 2010, making it one of the area’s most captivating hotel designs.
A unique stay that preserves the charm of the area while maintaining the modern standards of comfort and technology, the Casas na Areia is an escape where you can seek refuge and distance yourself from everyday life, bringing nothing but peace into your soul.
