in the words of @matthewbrookesphoto : "I was obsessed with Armani since I was a teenager in high school in South Africa.We didn’t have international magazines in the stores there but my library had 2 international men’s magazines that someone must have donated - there was an American GQ magazine and an Italian L’Uomo Vogue. Inside were international ads and that is the first time I saw clothing and perfume campaigns from Armani. I was obsessed with how beautiful these ads were and even though I knew nothing about photography they were imprinted in my brain - pure black and white images from genius photographers. I took out those magazines over and over for more than a year - paging over them carefully like a bible.
Who would have imagined that one day I would become a photographer and get to work on these Armani campaigns ? It was impossible to imagine as I was a young kid from a small surf town in South Africa that had no talent or education in art or photography.
All I can say is that dreams do come true and as a photographer working for Armani over the years this has been the biggest privilege in the world ! I have always been in awe of the Armani aesthetic - iconic , clean , simple , pure with deep emotion and timlesssness. Here is a tribute to my favorite designer..."

in the words of @matthewbrookesphoto : "I was obsessed with Armani since I was a teenager in high school in South Africa.We didn’t have international magazines in the stores there but my library had 2 international men’s magazines that someone must have donated - there was an American GQ magazine and an Italian L’Uomo Vogue. Inside were international ads and that is the first time I saw clothing and perfume campaigns from Armani. I was obsessed with how beautiful these ads were and even though I knew nothing about photography they were imprinted in my brain - pure black and white images from genius photographers. I took out those magazines over and over for more than a year - paging over them carefully like a bible.
Who would have imagined that one day I would become a photographer and get to work on these Armani campaigns ? It was impossible to imagine as I was a young kid from a small surf town in South Africa that had no talent or education in art or photography.
All I can say is that dreams do come true and as a photographer working for Armani over the years this has been the biggest privilege in the world ! I have always been in awe of the Armani aesthetic - iconic , clean , simple , pure with deep emotion and timlesssness. Here is a tribute to my favorite designer..."
